Research Group “Mnemosyne”

Mnemosyne is a research group consisting of bachelor and graduate students of the School of German under the supervision of Associate Professors Eleni Georgopoulou and Ioannis Pangalos. The objective of the group is the transfer into Greek of German-speaking memory theories of key importance, like texts by Jan and Aleida Assmann, Harald Welzer, Astrid Erll etc. In the first phase (2013-2017) regular weekly meetings of the group members took place in which the texts were being discussed, analyzed and interpreted in order to find the best translation for crucial terms of memory discourse. Part of the work of Mnemosyne was presented in the congress “Memory and Narration” (2-3 June 2015) and printed as a chapter in the book based on the congress proceedings (Μια περιδιάβαση στα γερμανικά κείμενα περί μνήμης από την ομάδα «Μνημοσύνη», in  Γεωργοπούλου, Πάγκαλος (eds.), Μνήμη και Αφήγηση, Θεσσαλονίκη: Κυριακίδης 2020, p.337-389. [A Stroll through German Memory-Theories]).The activities of Mnemosyne were integrated into the lab for language research and didactics. Related courses are being offered by the supervising professors both on bachelor and graduate level.
