The Lab was established in July 2006 (ΦΕΚ 799/τ. Β΄/3-7-2006).
- It promotes the educational and research needs of members of the School of German on subjects that falls within the teaching and research areas of the lab
- It covers educational and research needs to all members of the School of German Language and Literature, at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the fields of Linguistics and Didactics
- It promotes empirical research in the fields of Linguistics and the Didactics of German as a Foreign Language
- It serves the research and educational needs of other fields of the School of German Language, as long as they are compatible and/or complementary to those of the lab
- It enables the use of new technologies for research purposes in all relevant disciplines
- It supports the activities of the Drama Club of the School of German Language and Philology
It also supports
- the development of collaborations with other labs, research centres or academic institutions and organisations in Greece or abroad, as long as their scientific and research objectives coincide, are compatible and/or complementary with those of the lab
- the organisation of scientific meetings and events (conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.) and the publication and editing of scientific studies
- research projects, autonomously and/or in cooperation with external institutions
- the development of educational materials in the context of specific programs, e.g. distance and lifelong learning, and their availability to all interested parties using new technologies
